The International Labour Organisation has declared it a “time bomb”, the Davos leaders refer to it as a “disaster”, and the United Nations has called it “staggering”. These three concerning phrases, uttered by major global institutions, all seek to describe the same economic challenge: youth unemployment. Despite young people making up 17% of the world’s population, they account for more than 40% of the world’s unemployed; a sum total of more than 75 million young people.
